Dify is an open-source platform for building applications on top of language models. On a visual canvas you can design chat apps, agents and workflows, connect a knowledge base built from your own documents, and give an agent tools such as web search or calls to your own APIs. It works with many model providers, and you can switch models without rebuilding the app.
Teams can use the hosted cloud service or run Dify on their own servers, which some need for data reasons. Logs show each conversation and each step a workflow took, which helps when you need to explain or fix a result. As with any self-hosted tool, someone has to look after updates, backups and access control, and model calls are still paid to whichever provider you connect.
